Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is camping allowed at the Cache Creek Airstrip?

A. No. Camping at the Airstrip is no longer allowed.

Q. Why is camping no longer allowed at the Cache Creek Airstrip?

A. The Village of Cache Creek is no longer permitting camping at the Airstrip to bring more business to the local hotels and campgrounds. Traditionally, camping at the airstrip drag races is allowed during the annual Graffiti Days car show that is hosted in Cache Creek. This has been an annual event for the past 40 years and camping has been grandfathered in as part of this event.

Q. As a Racer will I be able to park my trailer and equipment at the Airstrip during the drag races or will I need to remove it at the end of each day?

A. Yes. We have been approved to park and store racers trailers on site at the airstrip during the entire 3 day drag racing event.

Q. As a racer will I be able to park my race car overnight? Is the site secure?

A. Yes. Any racer wishing to leave their race car parked in the pits or in their trailer overnight at the airstrip is welcome to. The airstrip is fenced off from public access and will have security onsite during the entire weekend.

Q. Will there be a cruise or car show of some kind during the weekend?

A. Possibly. There has been discussion of bringing cars off the airstrip and into town to gather outside the Oasis Hotel, like what is done during speed week in Bonneville.

Q. Can I drink at or bring Alcohol to the Drag Races?

A. No. Race days are a Dry Event, and alcohol will not be permitted or served. As much as we would love to accommodate this, factors such as cost and liability have led to this decision.

Q. I’m excited to attend the races but I also want to party!

A. There will be two nights of live music at the Oasis Hotel in Cache Creek as well as social get togethers around the town, everything is close together and within walking distance to the Oasis Hotel. There will be plenty of opportunity to get your party on after a day of racing.

Q. Do tickets to the drag races include live music at the Oasis Hotel?

A. No. Tickets to the Drag races don’t include live music at the Oasis Hotel and will be a separate cost.

Q. Can I purchase my tickets online or do I have to do so in-person?

A. Currently you can’t purchase tickets online. The e-commerce portion of our website is still under construction; however, you will be able to pay with cash or card at the main gate.

Q. Can I purchase tickets online for the live music at the Oasis Hotel?

A. Online ticket sales for Live music is at the band’s discretion, please check their social media posts or concert schedule. We will do our best to share this information as well, otherwise ticket sales will be at the door only.

Q. I would like to buy some merchandise, will there be some available and can I purchase it online?

A. Yes. Merchandise such as shirts, hoodies, posters and stickers will be available for purchase at the Drag Races. There will be no pre-purchase prior to the event, whatever items are left over following the drag races will be listed online in the shop section of the website.

Q. Is your drag racing event sponsored?

A. No. We have decided to run this event at our own expense to maintain creative control and keep it grass roots. We are in discussions with a couple of small businesses that cater to our hot rod community and hopefully they will be able to contribute towards engine class winners.

Q. I have a hot-rod that is running a Ford 9” rear axle, will this qualify to race?

A. No. A ford 9” rear axle will not meet our racer requirements; drivetrain must be 1954 or earlier which is clearly stated in the racer requirement section of our website. The only exception is a T5 transmission.

Q. You have made an exception for T5 transmissions, why will you not make exceptions for other more modern equipment?

A. Our decision to allow for T5 transmissions was not an easy one and originally, I was against it. After some discussion with my pit crew, we decided to make this exception as there are many “period correct” hot-rods running these transmissions, they are not visible and don’t otherwise take away from the aesthetic and time period we are emulating at the drag races.

Q. I don’t want to change my wheels and tires, will you let me run radials?

A. No. Our racer requirements are very clear, radial tires and modern wheels are not acceptable equipment. A bias-ply looking radial tire is the only exception.

Q. Will you consider changing your rules to allow for more modern equipment in the future?

A. No. The entire purpose of this Drag Race is to emulate a period correct race that would have occurred during the 40’s and 50’s. There is already a well-established drag racing event in BC called the Old Time Drags at the Mission Raceway that is organized by the Langley Loafers. They have recently added a Flathead Class which allows for more modern equipment like ford 9” rear ends and radial tires etc.

Q. Will you open an OHV engine class in the future?

A. This is a possibility, but the engine class would be restricted to the early 50’s only. At this time, however, there are no plans to add an OHV class, but we will make an announcement should this change.

Q. Will you open a Motorcycle class in the future?

A. Yes and no. We have discussed opening an early motorcycle class that will be tank shift only among some other requirements. This is still in the works and there is no timeline as to when a motorcycle class would be added, but we will make an announcement when this changes.

Q. Do you have recommendations for accommodations in Cache Creek?

A. Not really. I have only stayed in Cache Creek a handful of times but there are plenty of Hotels, Motels and camping options in the area. The internet is a wonderful resource.

Q. Do any hotels in Cache Creek offer preferred pricing for people coming to the Drag Races?

A. No arrangements like this have been made and if any establishment in Cache Creek offers some kind of deal that would be at their sole discretion. Accommodation in Cache Creek is affordable to begin with.

Q. Why are the drags races in Cache Creek?

A. When looking for a racing location, Cache Creek is very central being on a highway junction. It is affordable and has a long standing drag racing history and car culture with its annual graffiti days car show being run for over 40 years.

Q. Are racers allowed to display car club plaques, or have club names and images on race cars?

A. Yes. Car Club plaques, names or club images are allowed to be displayed or painted on racers cars if they don’t interfere with or obscure the racer number.
